New wheel for an evergreen Anyone strolling across the outside area at this year's IAA did not believe his eyes: at the slot-car circuit of the traditional Carrera racing course manufacturer, which is frequently visited, there was a genuine Opel Manta A. Abt S3 – compact in his fastest form Purely dynamic is the fastest member of the A3 family. The performance data of the serial model already convinces. But when Abt Sportsline modifies the S3, it results in a premium sports car which is suited perfectly for the daily use but also shows distinctive racing genes. After the power treatment by the famous specialist for vehicles of the Volkswagen group, the 2.0 TFSI engine in the Abt S3 achieves 310 hp (228 kW) and overpowers his colleague from Ingolstadt by 45 hp (33kW). The quick Abt is distinctively more dynamic: 420 Newton meters of torque (the series model has 350 Newton meters) are pushing the driver deeply into the seat. The Abt S3 accelerates in 5.4 seconds from zero to 100 km/h and reaches a maximum speed from 258 km/h. For the sportive ambition of the driver the 45 additional horses are an inexpensive but worthwhile purchase. |

The Abt Leon iS is not just any modified vehicle. The fiery Spaniard from Kempten is equipped with a variable, intelligent power upgrade. The world innovation that is employed in the Abt Leon for the first time, bears the name “intelligent Sport“ (iS) and enables a variable power boost to 200, 220 or 240 HP. The choice regarding power is made by deciding in favour of a certain fuel type. The absolutely novel „intelligent Sport“ technology was developed on the basis of the world-wide first directly injecting turbo engine. In this connection it was the Abt engineers’ aim to combine the favoured qualities of the TDI engines with the advantages of the new 2.0T FSI power unit. For this purpose decisive engine characteristics of the electronic motor management were optimized and newly programmed. In addition, the Bavarian engineers developed a special gear unit so as to achieve a fuel-saving effect besides the maximum power output. |
